My husband was going crazy with a form that he had to fill out, so I volunteered to redesign it for him.

Last week I helped a friend out by redesigning a program for our local school’s dance performance. The redesign is a good demonstration of some simple design principles that can be used to improve any layout.

I thought this talk that Rob Legato gave at a TED conference was fascinating — the inside look at the workings of the human mind in relationship to special effects created for movies.

I thought it might be interesting or perhaps even helpful to talk about the creative process… what I’m thinking as I create graphics. So once in a while I will put up a post not focusing on the actual mechanics of how to use software, but on my thinking as I make a project.

Logo design is something that takes many concepts and principles of graphic design and melds them into one project. It’s more than just picking a piece of clipart to stick on top of your organization’s name.

A logo symbolizes who you are and what you’re about. So if you are designing a logo, the first question to ask is, “What is this organization/person about?”

I recently started helping out my husband’s university by doing some design jobs for them. It’s been about 13 years since I have done any real freelance design and it’s been fun getting back into the creative field again!
