Cutouts in Photoshop CS5
Here’s a clear video on how to easily cut out an image from a background. Wish I knew all these details earlier today, as I did this exact same thing the long way! Click here to see the video.
Indesign: Insert a Table
Tables are pretty handy tools for communicating information. Indesign makes it easy to insert a table into your text.
Which Graphic Program?
If you are new to the field of graphics, you might find it baffling to have to wade through Adobe Creative Suite programs to figure out which one to use. In fact, the number of packages offered is a bit mind-numbing. Standard, premium, master, production, what’s next? The kitchen sink?
Since this site focuses on Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign, here’s a helpful guide to which of these three programs to use for what purpose. (The base Creative Suite package with all three of these programs is Creative Suite Design Standard.)
Photoshop: Cutting an Image from a Background
Sometimes you need to cut an object from a background. There are different ways to do this, and here is one using a mask.
Photoshop: Creating a Cropped Image with Transparent Background
Sometimes you want to take an image and focus on it with a shape, like a circle. It is very easy in Photoshop to do this and to leave the background transparent.
Photoshop: Batch Editing
If you are lazy like me, you’ll like feature in Photoshop!
I cleaned out my music shelf and scanned in some old music. Unfortunately, they all came out sideways. But now I had 110 jpg images I had to rotate. How to do it the easy way?
Batch edit to the rescue!
Indesign: Embedding a Multi-page PDF
Every once in a while you might find that you need to take content from a PDF file and put it in your document. Indesign does this very easily.
Photoshop: Dropping Text Below the Baseline
My husband and I love Despair.com posters because they are hilarious. Today he wanted to make a parody of one.
But how to create those letters at the beginning and end that extend below the baseline?
Free Creative Photography Workshop and Downloads
I recently learned of CreativeLIVE, a site that offers photography training videos and free workshops!
Last month I watched the one of food photography. It was fantastic. This summer there are a bunch of other workshops and I have signed up for all of them. The one this Friday is about how to make creative photographs. And there are even free downloads — a booklet of the artist’s work (great for inspiration) and cool textured backgrounds. Free too! I like free. Check it out here.
